Your Perfume
I’m not sure exactly when we began to be opposed,
But I remeber the first incident that showed me your true self.
You were cold,
So I offered you my sweatshirt.
It’s soft, purple fabric made it one of my favorites.
You were grateful.
And then we waked into class,
And you said you were hot,
But wouldn’t give my sweater back.
And then you had the audacity to announce to the entire class that my sweater smells.
I didn’t show it,
But gosh I was embarrassed.
You know that I hate your perfume.
I’ve told you time and time again,
You can wear it,
But please don’t spray it when I’m near, or on me.
Maybe you forgot,
But I think you just didn’t care.
And despite my complaints you sprayed it on my favorite sweater.
Eventually you gave it back,
And I had to wear it,
Since I was cold too,
You just didn’t know,
Didn’t care.
Another thing you don’t know,
Is that I had a headache the rest of the day.
You did that,
You perfume did that,
And you knew it would.
From then on,
I tried to set boundaries,
But you
Just
Didn’t
Care.
And I care.
Oh I care, my friend.
Can I still call you that?
Is that title still true?
Words are often wasted on those who don’t listen.
I won’t waste my words on you anymore,
But I’ll stay here,
Silent, docile, kind,
If only to hide the monster being awakened within me.
