STORY STARTER
Write a story in which a mundane item comes to be of vital importance.
You could think about the item or the scenario first, but the story should still make logical sense, without the item appearing randomly.
Two-Faced
Duality
Comes to life in you
Petty, catty, and cunning
Yet soft and kind and the outside
It’s a show
A mask you put on
To make people like you
That’s all you care about.
Being liked.
Why?
So that you’ll find acceptance?
Why are you so insecure
That you belittle others?
Me?
I’ve seen you do it to other friends as well
Why?
Why do you make me feel bad
About what I have?
What I don’t have?
What I know?
What I don’t know?
To others
Who don’t know you
As well as I do
Who just see your surface
All they see is style, sass, everything society wants us to be
But I know
Every time you make jokes at my expense
Every time you tell lies for fun
Every time you break me down
It’s just because you hate who you are.
And that’s sad.
That you feel the need
To make me
Hate myself
Because of your insecurities
I have enough self-hatred on my own
I don’t need yours
So please,
For the love of God,
Be real
Truly real
Because you and I both know
This version of yourself
That you’ve crafted
Is not really you
Just the you that you wish you were
