Dirty Little Secret

I’m hiding something,

Not all that well, mind you,

But it remains out of sight,

From those who would abuse it.

I don’t know how long,

Until the world knows,

Mocks me for it,

Screams with laughter.

I’m not ashamed.

This was beautiful while it lasted.

I hold a secret dear to my heart,

I want to set it free.

To watch it fly out of sight,

And not carry the burden of hiding.

Her fingers lace through mine,

Our dresses dancing in the wind,

And suddenly the world is on fire,

Bright and vivid and _real. _

I’m positively ablaze,

Lost in her constellations of freckles,

In how open her smile is,

In how blindly I would trust her.

I don’t want to leave.

I don’t want to hide.

But her eyes are deep,

Filled with understanding,

When she says she doesn’t mind.

That she feels the same way.

I think I’m in love.

But really, who has to know?
