POEM STARTER

Was it worth it?

End your poem by challenging the audience to decide the outcome.

Was It Worth It?

When you hit him,

Because your day has been so hard,

Just one thing after another,

And the mere sight of him,

Was simply too much,

Was it worth it?

When you refuse,

To meet their gaze anymore,

Because surely you’ve failed,

When you give up trying,

For your child,

Was it worth it?

When you raise your voice,

And yell that she is worthless,

That life is better without her,

You didn’t mean it.

But she won’t forget.

So was it worth it?

Perhaps this has taken a slant.

These people are real, after all,

They are underpaid,

Under appreciated,

Overworked.

They didn’t sleep last night.

All of them lay awake,

In the dead of night,

And wonder,

Is

My

Life

Worth

It?

But are any of these excuses,

For the horrible things they do?

Was it _really_ worth it?

Will it ever be?
