POEM STARTER
Write a poem about seeing the face of someone you love.
Whether romantic, platonic, or familial love, use emotive language to convery the feeling you get when you see this person.
Best Friend
I’d almost forgotten what they looked like.
What he looked like.
The cap was new
The style was slightly changed,
But more or less the same
A jacket over probably a shirt underneath
Pants, even when it felt like 90 degrees outside
Covered, his entire body
I remember
His face, never changed, looks exactly the same as three years ago when I first met him
He wasn’t a he back then
But I didn’t mind then
& I don’t mind now
My best friend
Through thick & thin
Until everything hit
& he couldn’t stand it
I understand
I could hardly keep myself up
Out of the water,
Floating on the surface
Floating, not swimming
I couldn’t pull myself through the current
I had no hope it would mend
But it did
& we’re slowly repairing ourselves back together
Mending the broken, the bruised, the hurt, the pain
& hey, we’re back together again
& I won’t even lie
There’s still something there
Under the platonic, best friend, I’ll-always-be-there-for-you love,
Is a genuine, I-kind-of-love-you kind of love
Every time I made him smile
Every time I made him laugh
Every time I saw the best friend I remembered
I guess the feeling never left
It was just subdued from pain all this time
But we’re back
& better than ever
& we’ll always have the others’ back
