POEM STARTER

The Thin Veneer

I expected a thin veneer

Pasted sloppily to pressboard more

Cheap plastic than common sense

Fingernail soft pine and Allen wrench assembly

Based on the low price and the attentive texts

Instead

Again

I’d lost my glasses

In the bags of recycling

that the kids pretend not to see

Or in the exhausted trash bags by the door

Or in my relegated milk glass collection

I don’t know where anything is anymore

All I know is I’m tired of looking through someone’s else excuses and expectations

I need to leave my house to find my home

With my little things around me

And my home needs a good desk

well crafted, Well cared for

And here it is and there are my glasses
