POEM STARTER
Submitted by Elowyn Abernathy
Write an ode, but make it sarcastic.
An ode is a poem that normally focuses on a subject in a positive and glorifying light. Think about how you'll make the tone obviously sarcastic.
A Song For Mothers
Don’t you know it’s not gonna be easy
Don’t you know it’s not gonna be all fun
I wish I could hold your hand through this path
But you’ll have to walk it alone
Don’t you know it takes strength
Don’t you know it’s gonna take all you've got
I wish I prepared you for the price you have to pay
But now it’s sink or swim
The road is paved with the bones of travelers past
The path is dark so bring your own light
You see people in the distance whispering
But when you approach them they tell you half truths
You can take a break but you can’t linger
You can rest your feet but not for too long
This might be the most challenging thing you ever do
So put on some armor and brace for the fall
Don’t you know the years go by fast
Don’t you know the days drag on slowly
I wish you could borrow some strength from me
To help you weather the difficult days
But alas my own strength is fading
Don’t you know it’s lonely and cold
Don’t you know it leaves bruises and scars
I wish I had the balms to soothe your hands
To heal your wounds and mend your heart
Don’t you know the joys that it gives
Comes with a cost that’s great and heavy
I wish I could give you more patience for days
When the burden is too hard to bear
To help you survive the difficult phases
But alas that is not how it works
All I hope is my words
Can be your map
Your guide
Your beacon
On days when your world is so dark
And you are not sure which way to go
