POEM STARTER
“Open skies beckon in something broader.”
Write a poem that begins with this line.
So Close
Open skies beckon broader as it starts to pour
The rain the only thing keeping me afoot
Lost at day, not sure where to walk
So I just sit still as I watch the eagles soar
If I were to reach out, would I touch god’s hands?
Would he be reaching for me as breaths became short?
Just one finger away, but yet never close
Thundering, lightning beckoning me so…
If only, if only, if only I cry out to the empty voice
If only, if only, if only I could rise up into the skies’ embrace
If only, if only, if only, where would I find somewhere safe?
Open skies beckon broader as it expands into the space around me
Holding my heart— or really the empty space where it’s supposed to be
If you could take away the one thing anchoring me to land
Would I fly up into the skies’ that cry, and believe I simply can
Just one more night until the skies call my name
And just more time until the sky beckons, taking me by the hand
