STORY STARTER
“It’s not fear I smell, it’s future.”
Use this line in a story of 500 words or less.
Future
It’s not fear I smell, it’s future.
I’m ready to move on from the now,
Into what can be the new.
But I can’t take you with me.
We both know that you shouldn’t come.
You drag me down,
And maybe I you.
Yet neither of us a scared.
That’s just how life works.
Some people aren’t meant to last.
Summer comes along,
And we both cut contact,
Not wanting to seem needy by being the first to reach out.
Yet neither of us take the first step.
And who know,
Maybe that first step could have led to a whole new path,
That could have became my life.
But it didn’t.
Since neither of us looked that way.
So we walk back into the school year as strangers,
Only this time with memories that hurt.
And years later I’m scrolling through my feed,
And I see you with a smile on your face.
I’m happy for you,
I truly am.
But a part of me will always miss what once was.
