POEM STARTER

Write a poem about mixed emotions.

It can focus on any two emotions that may coincide with one another. What poetic forms might suit this theme?

The Mind’s Games.

It takes up my very mind,

My brain, eyes, my heart—

everything that lies inside,

Turns my stomach inside out,

Heats my body up;

How should I deal with myself?

One moment, I embrace it,

Let this parasite

Take over my soul for hours,

Next moment, I hate it;

Not even bathing,

Would cleanse the disgust later.

Many people feel the same,

Yet in insane’s heart,

I feel bound to it like true love.

It’s like it rains on one side,

While sun shines across;

Should I be doused or embraced,

By the storm of self loathing,

Or by the sun’s purrs,

To hold the much darker side?

To see the cycle: night, day,

Pained contemplation

I drown in — but either way,

I mourn my poor innocence,

Locked away for good,

Under a stew of those thoughts;

How do I escape?
