POEM STARTER

Write an elegy about the death of something other than a person.

An elegy is a sad poem, traditionally expressing sorrow for someone who has passed away.

Once you get sick

Nothing feels happy once you get sick.

The leaves turn brown,

They fall to the ground,

And they never turn green again.

For a world that used to shine

To become matte and dull,

Is one of the greatest tragedies that comes, When life sucks out your soul.

Nothing is easy once you get sick.

When everyday there are needles inside of you,

And some days it is hard to move.

But the world keeps spinning without you,

Which really is the hardest part.

Because You are stuck in bed,

While the earth turns and turns

And all you can do is cry.

Some nights my mind whispers,

That is is all my fault.

But why would a little girl,

Shut her light out on purpose?

Nothing is fine once you get sick.

Even if you tell everyone you are,

You never truly feel fine again.

When pain is a concept

That you know all too well.

And the leaves turned brown

Many moons ago.

But the moon quits shining,

And you have to find your way in the dark alone

Because most days the stars are a faint sparkle

That show no empathy

No reason to help you.

Once you get sick all you want to do is give up.

But you make yourself keep going,

You promise yourself to not get worse,

And sometimes that works.

Once you get sick:

The old you dies,

And there is no getting her back.

In a world that seems impossible.

In a world that is impossible.

In a world that is inaccessible.
