POEM STARTER
Write an elegy about the death of something other than a person.
An elegy is a sad poem, traditionally expressing sorrow for someone who has passed away.
The Death Of A Moment.
It was once all butterflies and stars,
With each smile that sprouted,
With each memory recalled.
We reveled each moment,
Housed, unaware of time,
Of how the walls will fall.
When those fateful words were muttered,
Words laced in solemnity,
Pure downcast thoughts, doleful tones,
Our laughter was charred—
Flurrying the air as ash,
A dark feeling, it owns.
It brings me to tears,
How we’ve lost such a beauty,
Like those stars and butterflies,
And now in the heavens,
In the winds of the dim,
Lost in the sea, they fly.
If I could reach out far,
And hold those times again,
I’d forget all to remember those times,
But that’s nothing but a stretch,
A fictitious desire,
I’ll try to bury in the depths of my mind.
So, rest in sweet peace—
I wish nothing but it in the afterlife,
Your joy will be cried upon,
Your lightheartedness now keeps us in strife.
