STORY STARTER

Your character manages to travel to the end of a rainbow, but instead of a pot of gold, they find…

A Firefly And A Wish

Lying on the ground, shining brighter than the vibrant colors of the rainbow, was a small firefly.

Rather than glowing yellow, the firefly shone with an iridescent color.

I studied the small bug, trying to understand the meaning.

Where was the promised gold?

“It was never promised gold would be found at the end of a rainbow,” the small firefly buzzed.

I froze.

“People are always disappointed when they see me, but they don’t understand the meaning,” the bug continued. “I was assigned here to grant wishes.”

For some odd reason, I don’t feel any disappointment.

“I’m not disappointed. I’m intrigued.”

The firefly fluttered its wings in excitement.

“I give a wish to those who are pure of heart. You, lucky one, have the purest heart I’ve ever seen.” The firefly bounced up and down in joy.

I looked at the small bug, peering into its small eyes. I saw sadness swirling within.

The poor firefly was trapped to stay under the rainbow.

“Pure Heart,” the firefly sang, “make a wish and it shall be fulfilled!”

I pondered all the wishes I dreamed of throughout the years, but something was nagging at me.

“I wish for you to be freed,” I commanded

A golden glow filled my vision as invisible chains lifted from the small bug.

“I won’t forget your kindness, Pure Heart!” The firefly said as it flew into the blue sky, away from the rainbow that seemed to be running away in shame.
