POEM STARTER

Write a villanelle about something that has been abandoned.

The villanelle is a type of poem characterised by its repeating lines and ABA rhyme scheme which create a lyrical effect. There are a number of other rules for a full villanelle if you wish to incorporate them.

Washed Up

Drowning In the rivers of change.

Not knowing where I will be washed away.

Life has lately been so strange.

18 is such an unpredictable age.

Plans for the future starting to fray.

Trapped in old patterns, stuck in a cage.

I don’t know how to flip the page.

Everyone leaving, no one left to stay.

Learning how to rearrange.

Forgetting how to engage.

The only color I see is gray.

Emotions that can no longer be contained.

I’m drowning in the Rivers of Change

Just trying to make it day by day.

Tripping on this stage.

Falling out of my own Range.

I’m stuck on this new delay.

Getting sucked up in the drains.

Of a world I wish I could figure out, to change.
