POEM STARTER

Mortality
Write a poem with a structured rhyme scheme, which focuses on the theme of mortality.
You and Me
Mortality.
It runs deep, painful, crimson red.
Its living and dying once our time is up.
Its our very first broken heart.
Our very first scraped knee.
It’s warm tears of pain.
Mortality.
It’s the loss of what once was.
It’s the feeling of being alone.
It’s suicide and imperfections.
But it’s so much more than that.
Mortality.
It’s the warmth in our cheeks.
It’s something we all have in common.
It’s sickly sweet kindness on a hard day.
It’s fighting hard for our country.
It’s giving birth to a new life.
Mortality.
It’s something you and I share.
It’s the ability to hurt and to heal.
The ability to let go, and to grow.
