WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a descriptive passage about the sound of water trickling down a stream as you walk through a shaded woodland.

Consider the type of language that could best describe the sounds and ambience of this setting.

Heartless Man

I’m sittin’ by our lake with a little regret,

listening to the trickling water.

not knowing what I’m even here for.

I hate the way you controlled my life,

emotions can’t live on

when they’ve been numbed.

And you been playin’ me

as if I were someone dumb.

But I survived you,

so I’m not really some

kind of person who would take that BS.

Got the roots under my feet,

but I can’t seem to find my ground.

Hear the birds chirping,

the leaves crunching,

hear your little lies

and fun insults,

creepin’ in my mind like

the sun’s rays on the neighbor’s lawn.

And when I’m gone,

I hope my eyes don’t look as hopeless.

ā€˜Cuz it hurts to know you’re alive

but you don’t care.

Green, green eyes but dead inside,

hidin’ a secret and a man that never once cried.

Because a heartless man don’t want to fix

anything broken unless it is

a truck or a sink or maybe a bridge,

and when someone gets attached

he just decides to leave.

ā€˜Cause a heartless man

doesn’t know how to grieve.
