STORY STARTER

Inspired by Emira

Two people from warring kingdoms have fallen in love.

If you've ever wanted to write your own take on a classic romance trope, now's your chance. Which elements of this genre will you explore to make your story unique?

The Other Side

A dark figure swept through the forest, knife gleaming in the moonlight.

He glided through the trees, silent as a shadow, the treetops blurring past him. His ebony black cloak flowed behind him like a dark river, making a slight swish noise. A slight grin came over his face—this was going to be a fun night.

His pace slowed slightly as the walls of the kingdom came into view, and a faint panting could be heard from inside the cloak, which had fallen gracefully to his side.

“Halt!” A voice shouted, cutting through the silent night, “Identify yourself and state your business.”

He looked up and saw an armed guard beneath the entrance, and let out a chuckle. “And how exactly are you going to make me do that?”

The guard took a step foreward, sneering and grabbing the hilt of his sword. “I order you to stop on behalf of the King and Queen.”

“Actually,” the hooded figure said pleasantly, “It’s them I’m here to see.” He grinned again, holding his hands up innocently.

“What?” The guard snarled, anger sparking in his eyes. He inhaled sharply as the figure took a menacing step foreward, reeking fear.

“I have an important message to give them,” the man said simply.

“I said identify yourself!”

“Do you really think you could stop me?” the figure spat, a dark hood concealing his face. “No matter who trained you, no matter who you are, you are no match for me. _You_ are nothing.”

The guard was shaking now. “Scared, are you?” the figure taunted.

“I—no—no one has stopped me before,” the guard choked out. His knuckles were turning white on the hilt of his sword, quivering slightly. _He’s scared of me!_ The man thought, with a tiny bit of glee.

“Care to try?”

The guard lunged at him in response, but the man easily sidestepped him. He shot his arm out, his blade a deadly extension, and stabbed the guard with one lethal stroke. He fell to the ground, dead, armor making a clang as it hit the hard stone.

_Well, that was easy,_ the man thought, and a faint smile could be seen from under his hood. He wiped his hands off on the smooth black fabric and gently stepped over the corpse. _Looks like I’m in. _

He began to run again, knife in hand, cloak billowing out behind him, sticking to the shadows of the town, grin never vanishing.

Everything was going as planned.

Now all he needed to do was get to the King and Queen…

_Okay guys, please don’t judge, I literally just got back from like 3 different church camps, but I really wanted to post something because I haven’t in awhile. Thanks to _🪻_Delphinium_🪻_ for checking in on me, it was so sweet! But I literally wrote this in like 5 mins, and also I have only gotten like 3 hours of sleep the last two weeks straight…_

_(Hopefully a part two coming soon! If I can work up the energy lol)_
