POEM STARTER

Submitted by nlove

Write a poem based on the theme of illusions.

Whether this be something magical, deceptive, or imagined, keep illusions as your central theme.

Wrong

Something is _wrong_.

Like, italicized kind of wrong.

Like, I can hardly breathe kind of wrong.

Like, I could reach out and shatter shadows kind of wrong.

Like, I am melting-falling apart-splintering off at the edges-drifting into murky emptiness-lost in nothing, nothing-

**_“Nothing’s wrong.”_**

Is what I would say, if anyone asked.

But no one does.

No one asks.

They can see it on my face, I’m sure.

But we’re all a little wrong right now.

A little over a year ago,

Apparently I had really awful posture.

That led to people constantly asking me if I’m okay.

And yeah, I was pretty fucked up,

But in the way that made my sick mind feel I was alive.

I didn’t need them to ask all the time-

Honestly, I wished they wouldn’t.

But now?

Nobody asks anymore.

I wish they would.

But no, they think I’m fine,

All because I sit a little straighter.

Isn’t that strange?

How come all I have to do is adjust my posture,

And everyone assumes I’m fine?

How come all one of my friends has to do is smile,

And everyone assumes she’s fine?

Why is it like that?

Why does nobody ask?

Is scars and dead eyes the only thing that will make people show they _care_?

That’s just wrong.
