Relief

The cravings claw at my skin. My muscels tighten at their presence. I beg for just a moment of silence. I long for an escape, one that allows me to grow. I find myself walking down this pier. Wood creeks while my feet drag along its panels. The wind contors against my body, a hollow shell. Numbness begins to creep across, my blood starts to slow down. The waves crash down on them, echoing against ...

Capitalism in a nutshell

the snow covered mounatains stretched above me like looming majesties. it felt almost fearful to be in presence of such majestic nature. my repsect for mother nature grows within me, and thats quite a stretch considering I am in Antarctica documenting climate chnage. My passion, my meaning, all I want to give into in this life is to fight for what I was brought here to do. saving the world, bit by...

Change Is Here

I’ve been coming here for 35 years. The gentle sounds of the wooden boardwalk match the beats of my heart. When it sways, I smile. When the wind picks up, it means change is coming. For thirty five years, change was good. Until this morning, when the landscape changed from sunny warm skies to a white, cold exterior. Climate change, wasn’t real, they said. Tell that to my frost-bitten fingers....

An Eyepatch

We prepare on edge of the wooden pier, glancing out into the large expanse of the lake that we usually fish at. It’s calming, I guess. The snowy mountains are about a mile and a half from us—the perfect distance for a good view. I puff out a cloud of heated air and rub my hands against my coat.

It’s cold, I think to myself.

“You have the rods?” The other man said. He was growing gray hair and ha...

Waiting

Gavin stood, huddled into his furs against the cold and trying his best to not slip on the ice which coated the boards of the pier. Shivering did not help. He tried with all his strength to warm his own body, but to no avail. Still, though, he waited. From a distance, he almost blended in amongst the posts holding the dock in place, but he did occasionally shift his stance to favor one leg or ...

It Awaits

The ice bit our ankles,
but we walked anyway
two silhouettes in layers,
fogged breath between us like ghosts that couldn’t settle.

The arctic pier stretched out
into a sea of slate and silence.
Wood beneath us whined with every step,
a familiar creak old bones groaning in the cold.

“Don’t look down,” Jonah joked.
I didn’t. Not then.

But the creaks grew sharper,
louder,
less like wood,
more like… b...

At the pier waiting for apologies

I let my feet dangle off the edge

My toes barley dipping into the icy blue water

In my head your voice echos

One chant coming above all

I’m sorry

You said it once

Right in this very spot

We got in a fight earlier that day

And I walked away

You found me sitting here

Waiting

Tears slipping from my eyes

My grasp on reality fading

I have never seen your eyes hold so much emotion

Never thought you co...

A Frozen, Frozen Moment

The stern men, frozen at the end of the pier, stood strong with their fishing rods in their gloved hands. The rotten wood floor covering the delapidated pier was covered in slippy ice. The daunting mountains and hills on the horizon loom over the unsuspecting people. The settled water sighed and stared toward the overcast sky. The water was crystal clear and spanned the entire mountain range. The ...

A Frozen Moment

Peaceful I’m standing at end of the dock. The freezing air fills my nose with every breath. I love the view of the snow covered mountains in the distance. Except from the rippling water, it’s completely silent. It feels like I’m standing at the end of the world and I’m so happy to be here. Having left normal life for a moment to enjoy this quiet scenery. Life is a great adventure and it’s about mo...

Shiver Me Timbers

Freezing cold

Cold as ever

I’m shivering, shiver me timbers

I thought you loved me

But you left me here

All alone, on a cold icy pier...
