Writing Prompt

POEM STARTER

Write a poem that uses 'eye rhyme'.

Eye rhyme is where words look like they will rhyme, but don’t when they are spoken or read. Think about how you could use these jarring 'rhymes' to portray something in your poem.

Eye Rhyme

OK, OK… So I know this poem sucks ass. But you got to admit, I did a pretty bad ass job of using eye rhyme! Lol. 😜

Through all the awful places that I’ve been,

And all the dark and evil things I’ve seen,

Through heartache's maze that kept me on the move,

I clung to dreams of someday finding love.

I've always longed for a son or daughter,

Imagined a home filled with joy and laughter, ...

The Smirk Is Mightier

The more you know

The higher your brow

Beneath your smirk, so rouge

Is an ego ready to gouge

Every skeptic, every one

Who takes a controverting tone

You brand as a demon

Sour face, lips tasting lemon

I pity you, your sneer abounds

You cannot teach you only wound...

Fly, Enemy, Fly

I stepped upon a root,

It nearly broke my foot.

‘Twas all that I did find

As we pushed against the wind.

Through trees the sound of laughter,

Yet, threatened times of slaughter:

The reason we must move,

To protect our nascent love.

For if she should come again,

And bring with her great rain,

I will have to vacate my seat,

No longer to be Great.

I mean not to imply

A decision made simply,

Stand As One

This day has been so good

We’ve had such great food

Our fellowship remains so strong

Standing as one, among the crowd....

Nanna

Oh Nanna, home is your laughter,

I’m so glad I’m your daughter’s daughter,

Oh Nanna, I love looking through,

And seeing you smile as you make dough,

Oh Nanna, you never let me lose,

And if I do, you get Gramps with the hose,

Oh Nanna, when life seems bleak,

You make my favourite, chips and steak,

Oh Nanna, please never move,

Or I’ll lose a piece of me that is your love...

Brynhyld

Time is a broken clock: a fractured shard,

That she holds in her pocket in a hard hand;

Leaving those outside her control warred,

Against ourselves and those commands

That guide our souls towards acceptance.

And In this place where chaos is revealed

I long for peace and the love of Brunhild

And her maidens who would shield

Me from utter oblivion....

Afghan Interpreters

You asked me how I could just sip my wine

When my fellow interpreters suffer in vain

In the country that just fell to the Taliban

Who are the ‘students’ of the Koran

I exclaimed how it sends shivers down my spine

Seeing their chance to escape the brutal reign

Abruptly taken away with their fate slain

With their loyalties questioned once again

You knew both sides too well

Because you comma...

Soon

I have found I love

When I am on the move

The road calls

But I know I must come

Back to the town I calm home

But just a certain as a summer rain

The car will be packed

And we shall leave again...

The Bird Hunt

With sough

of the wind through

The boughs,

I spotted a chough.

I thought

It would

Be rough

To plough,

Through

The Slough,

Though

It was falling into the lough

That left me coughing

And hiccoughing!...
