Mirror,Mirror,

Who am I?

I know who I see,

But I can’t say it’s me,

A reflection, a shard,

Why the hell is this so hard?

Mirror,Mirror,

I take it back,

Please just let me see the truth,

Your lies distort and shame me,

Please why can’t you cut me some slack?

Mirror,Mirror,

Do you even know?

My skin will never be white as snow,

The only times my lips are red,

Is when they’re chapped ...

Who I Always Was

Panda Anderson

We all craft a side of us,

The one we share with society,

A side that is palatable,

Not a main dish.

Sharing our benchmarks,

The ones that deem us successful,

Albeit, Shallow success in a capitalistic world,

To have a job, a family, a home.

To bring me home to meet the parents.

See you know,

Exactly of what I speak,

But for you?

I can never be that person.

You were so assured that ...

Valentine’s Massacre

The alarm blared out, and woke me up in a panic. I’d set the alarm before I went to bed. Like I did every night.

I jolted up and shoved my feet into my slippers before heading out to see what was going on, grabbing the baseball bat that was behind the door. It wasn’t there for any purpose other than we’d been out playing earlier in the day.

The alarm continued to scream at me as my heart rate...

They told me this was the end,

That all my thoughts would fade,

The life would seep from me,

As they injected that lethal dose,

20 years on death row,

I’d made peace for what was to be,

I lay there awaiting the end,

Knowing there was nothing to mend,

I’d already gone around the bend,

Murdered 23 people,

Number 24 had gotten away,

Now, my life they’re here to take,

I will rest among the...

The trail felt never ending, and the heat from the sun in the midday sky was unforgiving. I had packed as light as I could. Even the bugs weren’t wanting to come out and pester us. The ground was dehydrated and the gravel, sticks and other debris crunched under each heavy footstep. Our tour guide didn’t say much, but they were more for making sure no one got lost in the wilderness than actually de...

Start Again, When It Rains

“Start gain when it rains” something my grandmother had always told me, and I guess she lived by it too.. because she’d been divorced six times by the time she decided to live her best solo life.

I’d thought it so strange to want to even marry someone to begin with, let alone six times. But then I’d met Charlie, who was my best friend. They’d been in my business class in college and I’d found th...

I’d finished my doctorate. It was official, I was now Dr Wilson. Had a nice ring to it I thought.

It’d taken me 15 years and a lot of money I never really thought I’d be able to afford to finish it. I stood there at the graduating ceremony, and wondered what my life would be like once I walked off this stage.

Snowed Under.

The wind ripped through the mountain, a rage of storm that wasn’t unusual for here. There had been a snowstorm a few hours earlier and it threatened us with its cold blasts again. I had to get this body moved. I couldn’t let anyone see me. Hopefully if when the sun melted the snow; they’d just assume that it was the cold that got to them.

No one was going to come looking for them. I knew that. I ...
