Write a short story about a fantasy creature going to the doctor for their yearly check-up. What would they measure? What constitutes as 'normal'?

Entanglement

Cloud gazing was like the daytime version of stargazing. They had stopped in a big grassy field to look at the clouds, the sky unobstructed by trees or bamboo. The grass was soft under their backs and their heads were pressed together where they were sprawled in the field.

Huo Linghun pointed up and said, "That one looks like a frog. And that one is like two cherries."

Xiao Xin smiled and hummed in wonderment.

"There's one shaped like a flower," Huo Linghun continued, his finger moving here and there across the sky. "And that one looks like a snake!" He dropped his hand and patted Xiao Xin's chest. "Now you say what one looks like."

Xiao Xin stared up at the sky thoughtfully for some time and eventually pointed. "That one looks like a cloud."

Huo Linghun used his other hand to cover up a laugh. He did have to commend Xiao Xin on his ability to recognize the very cloud-like shape of that cloud. "I suppose so!" he agreed. "Try to find one that looks like something else."

Xiao Xin became thoughtful once again. At last he pointed and said unsurely, "That one looks like... a rock?"

"Now you're getting the hang of it."

After cloud watching for some time they finally decided it was time to go. But when they sat up they found they were in a bit of a predicament- their horns had become tangled together. There came the soft clicks and scrapes of horn against horn as they laughingly tried to pull apart, but each pull only seemed to make them stuck more firmly.

"Maybe if we..."

"Wait, you're pulling me!"

"How are they even stuck like this!"

"You're too tall, I can't move..."

"Maybe you are too short!"

"Linghun!"

They managed to make it to a standing position, though Huo Linghun was bent over a bit and Xiao Xin was off-balance. And they were even more entirely stuck than before. Huo Linghun reached up with both hands to try to detangle them and with much effort he finally managed to get Xiao Xin's horn unstuck from his.

"We're free!" he exclaimed, and they both moved away from each other only to be pulled back again from where their hair had knotted together. Their gazes met and they both laughed, and Xiao Xin said, "I guess we're just meant to be tangled together."
