Drunk and Dazzling
I once knew a man
Who I had a liking for
Even though he was kind of hard to understand
He was also kind of hard to not adore
Seeing his inviting smile
As he went through the trash
His laughter being so delightful
As he fought off a raccoon with an ugly rash
I only ever saw this man during the night
Being around in the alleyways, doing whatever
Playing his banjo and harmonica in the moonlight
Drinking all the moonshine he could whenever
He was always fun and nice
Being so full of life, despite being quite a bum
Unless you’re a raccoon or some mice
Then he’ll fight for his life, making you so numb
He would always greet me, say hello
We would always talk for a bit
Talking about whatever, so and so
From how my day was to where he just got hit
We would talk around a local dumpster fire
Have a lovely time
While eating his soup made of raccoon fur
Along with coughing up grime
I would always see him, this old hobo guy
Whenever I could when it was dark out
When the moonlight would come by
And a long trail of moonshine was out and about
I would love how he would make me laugh
How he could be entertaining
With how he played with trash, doing things like calculating math
Or tell me old war and sports stories
I was always seeing this old man
Having fun
Learning about him, his life, his lost van
Pretty much a ton
Until one night
When I saw him lying in the alleyway
Being lit up from the moonlight
Drenched in a puddle of moonshine, spilling all the way
I don’t know how he died
I couldn’t think much, for I was crying
But as he lied
He looked like what I thought of him as so drunk, yet so dazzling
