“Why did you kill her!?”

“Because she was hunting what you needed.”

“No. You don’t do that for me— don’t go pretending this is more than what it is.”

A sly smile tugs at his lips. “An alliance?”

Asshole. “Yes.”

He leans in closer, more than I should’ve allowed, “Is that all this is?”

It’s barely a whisper, “Yes.”
