“I need runners in the kitchen! This food is dying!” Daniel yells! He is the head chef for Table 25. The local farm to table restaurant in Flower Mound, Texas. They specialize in American Cuisine with French inspiration.

He looks up and sees the food is still in the window. That Beef Cassoulet is getting cold. I have to do everything as he walks around the line to run the food to the guest. Where are the servers? Probably doing nothing he thinks to himself. As he walks to table 16 he sees Amanda being overly nice to the rich guys at the bar. She just is working for a better tip, but the person at table 16 deserves good service too.

He gets to the table and the guest is staring at him, they must notice the food in Daniel’s hand.

As he drops off the food. The guest says, “Thank you Daniel. I was hoping to see you tonight.“

A jolt of fear goes through Daniel’s body. “No problem. Do… do I know you?“ he responses.

“No but I saw you last week off of the overpass over I-35 last night.“ he says while examining the food.

“I think you have me confused with someone.”

“Oh no, I don’t confuse fellow enthusiasts.” He says while winking at Daniel.

“I don’t want to keep you too long.” He hands Daniel an envelope and says, “Talk to you soon.” With a cynical smile on his face.

Daniel walks with a quick pace back to the kitchen. What is in the envelope? Who is that guy? Did he really see me last week? So many questions and I still have three hours left at work.

Amanda walks into the kitchen and asks, “Does Table 16 need anything?”

“No!” Daniel says back aggressively.

“I was just asking. You don’t have to be so mean.” Amanda says as she walks out of the kitchen.

The shift goes by and Daniel is locking up and walking to his car as he is examining the envelope. He is the last one in the car lot. He opens it up as soon as he gets in his car and what he sees makes him tremble.

It’s a picture of his mom and dad asleep in their home. The picture is from earlier that night. And it has this morning’s newspaper in it. What is going on? They live in San Diego! How did this guy have that picture? He flips the picture over and it says meet me tomorrow on your day off at midnight. At the old cemetery on Country Road L.
