STORY STARTER
"Everybody wants to judge, but nobody wants to listen."
Write about a character who is going through a typically stigmatised situation. As an added challenge, try to write from the perspective of the opposite gender to yourself.
Not-Typical Teenage
Note: This isn’t finished, I just wasn’t sure what else to write 🙃👍🏼
My name is Jake. & I have a story to tell. One that’s been waiting for me to open my mouth & spill, so here goes nothing.
Everybody wants to judge, but nobody wants to listen.
The typical teen doesn’t hate their parents. I mean, I’m sure they say they do sometimes, but deep down they love their parents.
Not me.
You probably don’t understand. I get it. If you made it this far, you’re probably looking for the explanation as to why… I’m surprised you made it this far. But I guess I could explain.
Parents are supposed to raise their kids. They’re supposed to be there for them, help them, give them advice, show support, encourage them, love them, accept them, etc.
I said I’m not a normal teenager. Well, not exactly. I used to “typical” & didn’t refer to myself at all. But I’m not a normal teenager. & my parents are not typical parents.
I raised myself. Learned to read at age 3, full novels, whatnot. I learned to cook at age 8, & before you go, but Jake, you shouldn’t be operating a full kitchen at such a young age w/out adult supervision, one my parents was usually in the kitchen. If they were sober or not is a different question.
So, yeah. I don’t love my parents. I don’t even like them. & I’d probably be better off w/out them, but let’s not go there.
