POEM STARTER

Write a blank verse poem on a topic that's important to you.

Blank verse poetry doesn't rhyme, but has a very strict structure which builds a melody through rhythm. (One way to create this is to structure each line with the same amount of syllables, and the same syllabic stresses, like you might if you were writing the verses of a song.)

Not Romantically Loved But Loved

I want to be loved deeply.

So deep that I can feel it being received to me.

So deep that the oceans will sing to me.

I want to be touched by hands that won’t strike pain to me.

Touched by somebody who genuinely craves me.

I want the love you think you can only dream of, read of, see on tv of.

I have wanted to be loved romantically for so long now that sometimes I wonder how I’ve kept my standards “high.”

I don’t want fake love. I want something that is real to me, even if It does not last long.

I want something that feels electric.

Brings sparks inside of me.

I want that person to express how much I mean to them, and for me to feel it.

I would do the same for them, as best that I can.

I’m done with the mixed signaled people.

If you want me you should show me!

And until then I’ll be alone.

My whole life may go by without ever having a partner. And I’m growing to be okay with that.

I am proud of myself for who I am becoming.

Each day I grow more free.

I will continue this journey of peace.

Whoever comes to me will find me.

And if not I will walk this world without ever having a romantic love.

And that is okay because after all I am never alone and I am loved by many.

I will continue to keep my standards “high.”

I refuse to settle for somebody.

I wish everybody thought this way too.

Being single should be more normalized.

This would prevent many from being abused.
