When I look in the mirror

Who is it that I see?

A version of myself I never thought I’d ever be

A version of myself

With a sadness in her eyes

If you asked me to explain it though,

I couldn’t tell you why…

When I look in the mirror

I hate the girl inside

I’d smash her frame to pieces

If only I could tell you why

She trusted far too easy

She loved him all too hard

He broke her down to nothing

He left her bleeding, scarred

So when I look in the mirror

I see the girl who gave her all

And still ended up with nothing

But the product of the fall

My body is a vessel

Who housed the greatest gift from God

And for that I am so grateful

And when they ask me I will nod

Nod in silent agreement

Nod in silent prayer

Because she doesn’t regret the feelings

Or even the despair

It’s better to have loved and lost

Then never loved at all

He’s taken all he can from her

He broke her, left her raw

But she will rise from broken bones

To who she’s meant to be

And when she looks in the mirror

Who is it that she’ll see?

A girl who gave her all to love

Who is stronger than the fall

A girl who rises up from pain

And continues standing tall

You can’t take away from me

The person that I am

I love the girl I see inside

I love her, pain be damned…
