_Chapter 1; An Unexpected Friendship_
** ** “Bye. Love you!” My mom called out. My parents were going on a trip for their anniversary.
“Love you too!” I called back. I can finally sleep.
I closed my eyes as I began to drift off. After a long day of helping my parents pack, I finally got my well deserved rest!
I heard crickets which made my eyes creep open and I saw a strange portal. Next thing I knew, I was pulled into that portal. Was this just a dream?
“HAHAHA!” I heard a strange cackle, like a witch, in the distance.
“This dream is so realistic. This is just a dream,” I told myself nothing here is real. “Ouch,” I pinched myself. Wait! I’m not dreaming? Then where did that cackle come from? My eyes scanned my unfamiliar surroundings as I cautiously walked around. The leaves crunched under my feet. Once my eyes made it to a strange human with a tall pointy hat I realized that I was looking at a WITCH! Was there anybody else there? Yes, there was. It was somebody with fangs? Wait a …VAMPIRE! I need to get out of here and quickly.
My feet moved on their own, the fear must have caused it. I ran and I ran. I took a moment to catch my breath, I was panting. I looked around to see where I should run. All I saw was a strangely big tree and the two monsters that have been chasing me! I was cornered, trapped! I could try to run past the monsters, but I wouldn’t get far. The monsters were much faster than me. Maybe could scare them? Yeah, no. I could try to …OH, climb the tree! But those branches are too high and too weak. There is no hope, I must face them. No matter how much I didn’t want to.
“Hi,” my voice was cracking, “I’m Alex.”
“Hello Alex! My name is June!” the witch said warmly.
“June! What have I said about talking to humans!” the vampire said. His face crunched with anger.
“You said they were dangerous. I’m sorry but she seems so nice!” June argued.
“The others also seemed nice,” he hissed back, “but then they started the war. Remember, they burned the witches, they hunted the vampires. Our friends and family were hurt! They are monsters! Now we live on different sides of the world!”
“What war?” I questioned. What war was he talking about?
“How do you not know?! Your kind hunted and captured vampires, witches, and many others. You should know this,” the vampire rolled his eyes. His words were strange and shocking.
“Sam! That war happened years ago! She must have been a baby, we were babies,” June fought. I was happy she defended me.
“I swear I never even heard of that war! I’m sorry for the way the other humans treated you,” I didn’t want to anger this “Sam” guy.
“ Ugh, fine. I accept your sorrowful plea. As you probably heard from June, my name is Sam.” Sam looked annoyed.
“Thank you Sam,” June said, “he can be grumpy sometimes, I wouldn’t blame him. All we wanted was to be friends with the humans, instead they trapped us,” June’s eyes began to weld with tears. I assumed the memories were haunting.
“I can be your friend, only if you want of course,” I offered.
“I would love that!” June exclaimed.
Over the next few days we got closer and closer. They even let me stay at their little cabin. We talked about anything and everything we could! I longed for my family. I need to get home. My family must be worried sick! But I can’t just abandon my new friends. What will I do?
I’ve got it! Sam and June can come with me!
“That is the worst idea you’ve had, ever,” Sam bluntly said.
“I hate to agree with Sam, but he is right,” June agreed.
“Please! I will give you anything and everything you need. I’ll protect you from anyone who would want to hurt you!” I begged. My eyes changed from normal to the cutest puppy eyes I could give.
“Let us think about it,” Sam said to me.
I sat in the bed my new friends were letting me sleep in. I was unable to sleep. What would Sam and June say? I guess I would just have to wait.
The next day I woke up bright and early! I needed to know if I would be a lone traveler or if I would have some friends by my side.
“We will all go!” June exclaimed. She is practically overflowing with joy and I was too. It felt like ages since I saw my family, though it was more like a week.
“Yes! This is so exciting!” I exclaimed.
_Chapter 2; Planning and Preparing _
“So… how are we going to do this? Are we going to randomly show up to my house?” I questioned. It feels wrong to just show up to my house.
“Well your parents will probably be worried, you did disappear for several days. What should we tell them?” June knocked on her head, it seemed like a strange habit. She was deep in thought.
“Well actually they are out of town, for their anniversary,” I explained, “I can probably get away with saying I was sick, so that will explain my absent days at school. But, you two… what can I say about you, to persuade my parents to let you stay? I doubt you have a house on the human side of Earth, you will need to sleep at my house.” I began to mumble.
“First of all, yes, we do not own a house on the human side of Earth. Second of all, how do you know that there are two sides of Earth? Last time I checked you didn’t even know about the war between humans and nonhumans,” I felt as if June’s eyes were burning into my soul.
“Back when we first met Sam mentioned to you that humans and nonhumans lived on different sides of earth. Sorry for eavesdropping!” I explained to June. “But back to the topic at hand, what should we tell my parents?”
“Hey, Sam,” June began, “do you perhaps have your phone on you?”
“Yeah, why?” Sam raised an eyebrow.
“To check how much a house is, on the human side and how to convert VKC and WKC to USD!” June stated, “We might not need to live with you.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, what is VKC and WKC?” I chimed in.
“VKC is the Vampire Kingdom currency. WKC is the Witch Kingdom currency,” Sam took a moment to explain, “and June, the average house cost is around 12,000 USD, 12 VKC, or 120 WKC. We are practically billionaires in USD!”
“We could buy our own house! Which means there is no need to make an excuse,” June said ecstatically.
“Good, I don’t think my parents would love my friends living with us. Not to mention they don’t know you!” I laughed a little as I spoke, “We should get to packing, no time to waste.”
I walked to the room I was staying in. I grabbed a bag from a closet that was filled to the brim with random objects. This is so exciting, I will see my parents again. I don’t care that it hasn’t been that long!
An hour later I found myself staring at a bag stuffed with clothes that were lent to me by June. I was officially exhausted, who knew packing could be so tiring? No me.
Eventually I decided to check on Sam and June to see how far from done they were. They were practically finished.
“Okay if we are going to do this we have to prepare!” I then continued, “Can you guys act… strange?”
“Umm, why?” June asked.
“Because, humans aren’t the most normal. We use something called slang,” I attempted to explain, but even I didn’t quite understand what my friends told me was slang.
“Slang? What is slang?” June questioned.
“Like, for example, slay,” I cringed as soon as I realized what I was saying. I, Alex Marie Brooks, was using slang! That is so out of character for me.
My thoughts were quickly interrupted when Sam questioned if they had to prepare in any other way.
“Not anything that I can think of. If I remember something I will make sure to tell you guys,” I informed them. “We should stay here for another day. You don’t have anywhere to stay yet. Tonight we can find a house or apartment. I will do all the rest,” I added.
We looked at houses and apartments in Sage Woods, the village I live in. Sam and June found an apartment that they liked and I got to work. First, I got Sam and June’s money. Second, I hacked into the apartments website. Then, I looked at the apartment’s reviews. No one wants a bad living space! Lastly, I used their money to rent them an apartment. I can finally sleep!
_Chapter 3; Back Home_
“Wake up, sleepy heads!” June was practically screaming.
“5 more minutes. Please,” Sam whined tiredly.
“No! Today we are going to the human side! So get up,” June yelled at Sam.
“Yay!” I screamed, “Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to scream so loud.”
“You two are so loud! My poor eardrums can’t handle it,” Sam sighed.
“Lets just go,” June said, “oh, and Alex here is a broom, just follow my lead when we go. Sam, are you good going as a bat?”
“Yep!” Sam replied.
I watched as June hopped on her broom and cast a spell. The spell must have worked for the both of us because we both started to fly. Sam was behind us.
It took a while to get to the human side but everything was worth it. It seemed the exact same (which makes sense because I was only gone for a few days). I looked around to try and find my house. And there it was, it almost seemed to be waiting for me. I ran to my house and dug into my bag.
“Here it is!” I celebrated. My house key! I unlocked the door and went to my room. I set down my bag and face planted into my bed. I was so tired, we had been traveling for hours!
“Umm, Alex, we don’t know where our apartment is,” June stated.
“What is your phone number? I’ll just send you the address and directions,” I pulled out my phone. As she told me the numbers I began to type the numbers into my phone. Then I sent the location to June.
“Okay, are you ready to go?” Sam asked June.
“Yes!” June replied.
Normally I would have asked if they were okay going alone but it is illegal to randomly attack without reason and I was rather tired.
I watched as June and Sam walked out of the door. I decided it was time to brush my teeth and go to bed. The sweet, sweet feeling of my own bed.
