COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem about an old tree and the secrets it holds.
The Moons Wondering Eye
In the dark night
A tree towers high
The mother of the Forrest
Covers up the sky
Its a secret she protects
Though I can’t say why
She keeps her kids away
From the moons wondering eye
The children of the Forrest
With their branches held high
Beg their mother
“Let me see the sky”
“I can’t” she says
Though she wants to try
She must keep her kids
From the moons wondering eye
She told them fables
Story’s of a guy
That her mother told her
When she was just a child
The man in the moon
With axe arwry
She must keep them safe
From his wondering eye
One late night
The Forrest stirred
The man in the moon
He had returned
CHOP, CHOP, CHOP
Was all they heard
And down the mother came
The tables had turned
In the dark night
Trees tower high
The children of the Forrest
Cover up the sky
Its a secret they protect
Though I can’t say why
They keep their kids away
From the moons wondering eye
