POEM STARTER
Inspired by Jewelie Rain
Write a poem that transitions through two or more of the seven stages of grief: denial, bargaining, anger, depression, loss of self, reflection, and acceptance.

_ “We’ll meet you there.”_
_ “Why? But okay.”_
Plaid shirt. Batman.
Together, at this hour?
She said you were working.
Frowns. **NOT HAPPY.**
_ “I must apologize.”_
_ “For what?”_

Tragedy strikes.
Tell me it’s a lie.
Crash.
Silence.
A world falls apart
Mine
Used to be, anyway
I have to call
I should check
How is my sister?
_What comes next?_
First ring
Phone up
Wish I had never heard

Tears.
Smiles. **NOT HAPPY**.
For how long?
_ “This blows my mind.”_
Laughter. Whose?
Mine.
Not from humor.
True smiles gone.
For how long?
I didn’t say goodbye.
There’s always next time.
Almost.
Not this time.
Three hours. Long ride.
**Silence**.
We’re here.
**Silence**.
NOISE. PEOPLE.
A party?
No.
A pity party.
**Last to show.**

A blur.
All a blur.
I already miss her.
Arrangements?
_I need sleep._
Try to convince myself it’s
just a dream.
Too many people.
Tears.
No smile.
All in purple.
Flashing lights.
Drive in a line.
“Dear God, Amen.”
_ I wonder who mows. _
Noise. People. **Silence**.
For how long?
**Last to go.**
What do I do now?
Who am I now?
I’ll find out one day.
I’ll be searching.
But always always always…
** Last to know.**
