POEM STARTER

Submitted by SmileyGuitar

Write a poem that starts in a cheerful, bright mood, but then reveals underlying anger or bitterness.

Like Lovers

Gorgeous, loving eyes,

Like lovers have,

She would look at me

So lovingly,

Oh how I loved

Her hazel eyes.

Soft, silky hair,

Dyed half green,

Half her natural brown,

Every hairstyle in existence

Looked absolutely stunning

On her,

I admired her beauty

Like lovers do.

And oh my lord,

She had the kindest heart,

Her personality?

A true work of art.

She was ever so pure,

Incorruptible,

Like lovers should be.

But then something shifted,

And like fall falling into winter,

She slowly grew colder.

She and I

Rarely spoke,

I wondered why

She changed,

I wondered what

Changed her.

Soon enough though,

Our love met its slow,

Painful end,

Like a train

That runs in hope

Coming to

A screeching halt

In its once

Frivolous endeavors.

She taught me many things,

But the last

Was true heartbreak.

We used to be

Like lovers…
