POEM STARTER
Compose a poem centred around the theme of 'the one that got away'.
The One That Got Away
The One That Got Away (For a Day)
Not the same day, I say
The one that got away—for a day,
Slipped through time in a sideways way.
Not gone forever, just out of sight,
Like morning fading into night.
It wasn’t that day, the one they mean—
The tragic, final, never-seen.
No, this was different, a twist in fate,
A moment paused at memory’s gate.
She brushed the world and walked on past,
As if tomorrow would forever last.
A breath, a glance, a word delayed—
A silence where a song once played.
We danced in hours not quite real,
Where nothing touched and yet could feel.
But when I turned to speak her name,
The day had shifted, not the same.
Not loss, not love, not clear regret,
But something harder to forget.
A ghost of closeness, held at bay—
The one that got away that day.
And though the sky still dawns with grace,
I seek her in each mirrored face.
Not the same day, I softly say—
But I still miss her anyway.
