POEM STARTER
Write a poem that could have the title ‘Mythos’.
Myths and folklore are often used in writing as a way to bring common symbolism to life. What exploration might you use?
Mythos
You lured me in just like a Siren,
Guide my heart like Ariadne,
Your love is deeper than Poseidon,
Like Medusa —one look, you had me.
You tempt like Circe’s cup.
I’m Oedipus — you’re Mum.
You really got me burning up,
Like Icarus near the sun.
Beautiful as Aphrodite,
Hermes’ message received.
Like Hydra’s heads trying to bite me,
From love I cannot weave.
Strong as Herakles himself,
I’m on Artemis’ hunt.
Richer than King Minos’ wealth,
I’m Hippomenes out in front.
If I am Zeus then you are Hera.
You’re Eurydice my muse.
But like Narcissus in the mirror,
It is myself I choose.
Like Theseus, away I go.
A failed Nymph’s attack.
But unlike Orpheus just know,
That I will not look back.
