POEM STARTER

A teacher discovers a hidden talent in a troubled student. But revealing it might lead to unwanted attention...

Patience is a Virtue

“I don’t usually say this,

But I see something in you.

The way you’re tapping your fingers,

And shuffling your shoes.”

“Even though you’re a troublemaker,

Choreography is your art.

Wherever your feet takes you,

I know the music’s in your heart.”

I swear, Mrs. Johnson,

Dancing is only a hobby.

I don’t wanna be those rich girls,

All fake, entitled, and snobby.”

“I appreciate you for noticing,

But I don’t wanna be noticed.

I don’t wanna be the laughing stock,

In which their teasing is focused.”

“Oh child, you got great style,

And you don’t have to be like them.

You are your own shining star,

A magnificent golden gem.”

“If only you applied yourself,

And tone down your sass,

Then maybe I can help you,

Exceed beyond this class.”

I swear, Mrs. Johnson,

Dancing is only a hobby.

I don’t wanna be those rich girls,

All fake, entitled, and snobby.”

“I appreciate you for noticing,

But I don’t wanna be noticed.

I don’t wanna be the laughing stock,

In which their teasing is focused.”

“Stop swearing, my talented child,

And just do whatever you have to.

I promise everything will be fine,

Don’t let your world turn blue.”

“But at last, I get you,

For I will no longer bother.

I will always be here for you,

Since I see you as my own daughter.”

I swear, Mrs. Johnson,

Dancing is only a hobby.

I don’t wanna be those rich girls,

All fake, entitled, and snobby.”

“I appreciate you for noticing,

But I don’t wanna be noticed.

I don’t wanna be the laughing stock,

In which their teasing is focused.”

“I swear I’ll try my best,

For this class troubles me.

But I rather make the class laugh,

Then them laugh at me.”

She looked into the child’s eyes,

Seeing the growing fear in them.

Then, she nodded with finality,

And went back to teaching AP Chem.
