Because your breath was too close to my lips

My only instinct, my stupid curse

Was to battle you with wit and verse

That left you empty

Still hollow

We leaned up against the wall

I had no idea what was coming next

I held my breath, my tongue, my peace

But then I couldn't take the heat

So I stabbed you with words

Your heart helpless against my sword

And I watched the light fade from your eyes

As you slowly walked away
