Grounded
**I wrote this poem off a prompt of my own creation, if you use this prompt, please give me credit for the prompt.**
**Prompt: Give gravity a voice. Let it speak about the burden of holding everything down and what it dreams of letting go.**
You’ve surely
Heard of me
In some scientific words,
I mean,
I am
Gravity.
But…
I’m just described
As an invisible force
That keeps everything
Grounded…
_That’s not _
_All I am…_
Yes,
What they
Say
Is true,
But I’m more
Than just
An invisible,
Grounding force.
I have
Quite the
Stressful job,
You know?
Keeping everyone grounded,
When all I want
Is to let go…
To be free
From the burden
Of this weight
I have had
Resting upon my shoulders
Since the dawn of time.
_I’m holding you down,_
_Not holding you back._
_You’re holding me back,_
_Not holding me down._
But I know
That if I let go,
I’ll then be held back
By the weight
Of my guilt.
Though
I can’t help
But wonder…
__
_What would_
_Freedom_
_Feel like?_
__
_What would_
_No weight on my shoulders_
_Feel like?_
__
_What would_
_Letting go_
_Feel like?_
But these
Are just more
Wonders
That occasionally appear
In my mind,
I know,
I’ll try
To leave them behind.
So for now,
I’ll keep you grounded,
I’ll keep you steady,
Just be ready,
‘Cause someday
I plan on letting go.
