In The Car
I sit in the passengers seat of the car. My brother in the back doing God knows what with all of my dads hunting gear surrounding.
My dad takes over the drivers seat, his football podcast turning wild over this touchdown made in like, 1989 and my dad is absolutely ballistic over it.
Meanwhile, I’m trying not to make my ears suffer by putting in my earbuds and listening to Spotify, my jacket laid on my lap since I’m currently too lazy to put it on.
The book, the summer I turned pretty lays beside me but I can’t bother reading it. I needed to save it ask I could show it off Monday at school.
Rude? Probably. But I just needed to. Plus I was halfway through the book considering I got it Wednesday and today was Thursday.
Accomplishment? I’d say yes.
We pummel into the tunnel, the light of the sun suddenly fading from existence and I scrunch my nose slightly.
I tighten my ponytail even though it already felt like my head might fall off with all the pressure. And dear god not to mention my tongue swelling from my expanders.
I wiggle it around in my mouth to relieve it of pain. Curse my low pallet.
Turning around I spot a glimpse of what my brother’s doing, nothing other than scrolling through his phone with his earbuds in too.
I go to look back out the front window only to see my dad trying to spot a glimpse of what I was looking at.
I ignore it and look out the front window, a huge truck driving alongside of us but my dad passes it—Ofcourse.
My eyes linger on my phone for awhile, before getting a text from my mom who’s only now coming home for fall break.
I sigh, clicking the link at the top of the partially cracked screen.
“Only a call away!” She says, before sending an extra “:)” at the end.
What the—?
