STORY STARTER

'…and all they could do was cry.'
Write a short story that ends with this as the final line.
A Day in The Life
Make my bed, quick, wash my head
Make sure that all the pets are fed
Brush my teeth till my gums bleed
And hope my pee misses the seat
The clothes are washed, fresh pair of socks
“Hey wait a second, what’s that spot?”
Smell test a jacket from the basket
Smear deodorant on to mask it
I drag my ass across the grass
Convince myself “this too shall pass”
Weave through traffic, radio static
Shove down some food, try not to gag it
Pull in the lot and pray for spots
Ash the joint, “Shit that’s my boss!”
The nine to five where time flies by
One day this will be worth my while
Just surf my browser, same thing for hours
WiFi’s down reset the router
Before I know it the moon is glowing
A day gone with nothing to show it
As I drive home, I sit alone
And ask myself where I went wrong
But I keep trying, or maybe lying
To tell myself life’s gratifying
So I’ll be true and see this through
Perhaps my life can start anew
The lights pass by twinkling my eyes
Reminding me of brighter times
Soon they grow near and it comes clear
That my future will not appear
The news passed by without a sigh
As I was just another guy
Until this guy found my mom’s eyes
And all she could do was cry
