The Beauty of Being Asleep
Write a poem which could have this as its title.
The Beauty Of Being Asleep
The blithe bliss of ignorance
The beauty of being asleep
To slumber in cognitive dissonance
To shepherd the dreams that you covet and keep
But what about the lost sheep you are counting?
Where will that wayward herd keep their winter?
When troubles and tensions are clearly mounting,
How then will your dreams endure without splinter?
To wish away pain and wait its passing, night or day
To hope with folly or fly blindly on a wing and prayer
Is much like living with a ghost who won’t go away
Whose chain-rattling haunt you can’t deny nor bear
A child is so beautiful when they peacefully sleep
We hope their dreams make them feel safe, joyous
But when men and women sleep while walking, awake
The truth they can’t face becomes prophecy that will destroy us.
