POEM STARTER

'It’s impossibly ugly this sweater, but I wear it each week, no matter the weather.'

Use this line as inspiration for a poem.

Stitches

It’s impossibly ugly this sweater,

But you knew that.

Yet still you wore it each week.

No matter the weather, no matter the stares.

You wore it with pride, without a care.

Its swirling patterns and vibrant hues,

Lit up each room as did you.

I’ll never forget that smile of yours

In that ugly little sweater, dancing as the rain poured.

And the warmth of your arms,

as we watched the stars.

Or the way your scent clung to the cotton,

Those nights with you I have never forgotten…

It’s impossibly ugly this sweater,

I know it.

But still I wear it each week,

No matter the weather, no matter the stares.

It makes me feel like you’re still there.

Its weathered stitches, still vibrant hues,

Remind me each and every day of you.

It brings me comfort, that I cannot describe..

Now I think that I understand why,

You loved this little sweater, no matter how worn.

No matter how many times that it was torn,

And you asked me to mend it, so mend it I did.

So each week I wear it, just as you would.

This ugly little sweater, I so misunderstood…
