POEM STARTER
Write a poem about an apology.
What is the apology for? How is it received?
Mountain Made of Sand
_I’m sorry; last night, for the call._
__
You’re SORRY?!! You had no right at all!
To stab me where I hurt the most,
To make me watch while you have a toast
“_To all my children, who I love so much_”
So much that I flinch at your touch?
Is that what you call love? Call care?
Yeah, you love them so much you call one of them a bear.
A grizzly bear, too, though he’s going into 6th grade.
Tell me, what would you do if I made
Holes in the walls of our house, w/ my foot?
Screamed at the top of my lungs till I ran out of air
Hurt everyone w/out giving a care?
I may be his senior, by six years; nonetheless
You say I’m let off easy, but I feel no rest
This pain that’s been ingrained in me from the start
My fight or flight reason, my first true response
I was broken down young, learned no boundaries
I learned to fight back; what can’t you see?
So tell me what I didn’t do
Tell me what I mean to you
You say you care, but in the end, words mean nothing
If you can’t do anything to help stop the suffering
So while I’m a rock-solid foundation, I can stand
You built a castle on a mountain made of sand.
