Cornered: The Beginning
*Chapter 7. I am so sorry about the inaccuracy in the lunch scene! I should have made the food nasty for it to give June and Sam the true American school experience.*
Chapter 7; A Feast With Friends And Family
“Alex,” Mom called, “we are home!”
“Hi mom!” I rushed out of my room and to the door.
“I got a call from school saying you were absent and they were asking if you were okay. Are you okay? You never miss school unless you get sick,” Dad inquired.
“I’m okay. I just had a cold and I didn’t want to get anyone sick so I stayed home,” I lied. I was actually on the other side of the world but I don’t think it’s normal to say things like that.
“Did you get medicine? Did you eat enough? We left a lot of groceries but there wasn't a lot of pre-made food-” Mom stopped , “Sorry, I’m just worried.”
“Yes, I got medicine. Yes, I ate enough. My friend made me food when they brought my school work. And, yes, I am okay,” I paused for a moment, then stated, “oh. Once I felt better, it was break by then, my friends and I prepared everything for Thanksgiving! Speaking of my friends, can they celebrate Thanksgiving with us?”
“Yes they can celebrate with us. I’m glad you have friends that care about you,” Dad smiled.
“Yay! Thank you!” I said as I did a little happy dance. I grabbed my parent’s bags and put them in their room. I ran right back to my parents and opened the fridge. “Look at the food my friends made!” I pointed to everything Sam and June made. “And I decorated the dining room and the living room,” I walked over to the living room.
“This looks great Alex,” Dad said.
“Indeed,” Mom agreed.
“Thanks,” I smiled a little brighter. I heard a knock on the door and went to go see who it was. It was June and Sam!
“Hello Alex!” June called.
“Hi!” I said.
“Who are they?” Dad asked.
“These are my friends I was talking about earlier,” I replied.
“Hi, I’m June and beside me is Sam,” June waved to my dad.
“I’m Alex’s dad,” Dad introduced himself.
“Nice to meet you,” Sam waved to my parents.
“Nice to meet you too,” Mom smiled.
My friends and I talked for a few hours until it was time for dinner. We pulled everything out of the fridge and reheated it. June helped me place the food on the table while Sam was setting the plates and silverware down. We looked at the table then at each other.
“This looks great!” June squealed.
“I know, right!” I screamed.
“You guys did a good job making all of this!” Mom complimented.
“She is right. This is really impressive!” Dad agreed.
“I hope it tastes as good as it looks,” Sam laughed.
“Let’s eat,” I said. So, we all sat down and began to pile food onto our plates. Turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, and so many more classic dishes. Once everyone was done getting food we dug in.
“Yum!” Mom called after she tried the turkey.
“The mashed potatoes are delicious,” Sam said, his mouth stuffed with potatoes.
“So are the yams!” June added.
“Everything is great!” I emphasized the word everything.
“I agree,” Dad smiled.
Once we were finished with dinner my parents said they would clean up claiming June, Sam, and I had already done enough. I thanked them and continued to talk with my friends.
“It’s getting late, we should head back to our apartment,” Sam stated.
“Sam is right. Happy Thanksgiving!” June said. She walked out the door and Sam quickly followed behind.
“Good night!” Sam said as he closed the door.
“Bye,” I called. I went to my room to get some sleep.
The rest of Thanksgiving break went by in a flash! Sam, June, and I spent our time going to the park by my house. We played tag, basketball, and many more games. At the end of every day we would say goodbye or good night and leave the park.
Buzz! Buzz! My alarm rang. “Ugh! How is it already Monday!?” I cried knowing I had to get ready for school. I rolled on my bed and thump, I fell right off. “Ouch!” I whined as I cradled my hand. “Oh shoot! I’m going to be late!” I grabbed the clothes I set out yesterday. I ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth and change. Once I was done I grabbed a slice of toast. “I’m going to head to school. Bye Mom, bye Dad,” I called rushing out the door.
“June! Sam! We have to get to school,” I was panting at the door of room 281, the problem duo’s room.
“Hi!” June opened the door with a bright smile.
“Hello,” Sam said.
“Okay, are you guys ready?” I asked.
“Yes,” the problem duo spoke in unison. I began to speed walk in the direction of my school. Sam and June trailed behind.
“Mind explaining why you are late?” Mrs. Davis inquired.
“Sorry Mrs. Davis! I woke up late,” I explained. The other students were mumbling about who the “strange people” behind me were. “The two people behind me are new students,” I stated.
“I’m Sam Smith,” Sam sighed.
“Hello! My name is June Anderson!” June was eagerly waving to the other students.
We sat down in our seats. Mrs. Davis explained our next project. She then passed out the papers to begin the project.
Ring! English class was finally over. Our next class was technology, my favorite!
“Hello everyone!” Mr. Williams exclaimed.
“Hi,” June said.
“Hi,” Sam copied.
“Who are you?” a student asked.
“I’m Sam and she is June,” Sam pointed to June.
“Hello,” Mr. Williams said to June and Sam. Then, Mr. Williams continued to talk about our coding project. We pulled out our computers and started typing.
Ring! It was finally lunch time! I could finally talk to June and Sam.
“How were the first few classes?” I asked the problem duo.
“It was fine,” Sam rolled his eyes.
“It was GREAT!” June practically yelled. “Yum,” She said as she took a bite of her sandwich.
“THIS FOOD IS SO GOOD!” Sam exclaimed.
“I know right!” I agreed.
We continued to eat our sandwiches. The bell rang as an indicator of lunch ending. We began to go to our next class, another class we had together.
“Oh hello Alex. I see you have the new students with you,” Mr. Brown stated.
“Hello Mr. Brown,” I said.
“Hi! I’m Sa-” Sam was abruptly cut off by another student.
“YOU’RE A VAMPIRE! I can see your fangs,” The student, Liam (I think his name was), yelled.
“Run,” I whispered. I grabbed one of June’s wrist, then one of Sam’s wrist, and I bolted out of the classroom. Then we bolted out of the school. Somehow we ended up in an alleyway? Don’t ask me how.
“So, um, what's the plan?” June asked.
“One second, I’m getting a call,” Sam said. He started to talk to someone. Worry took over his face. “What!?” His jaw dropped. “Okay,” Sam still looked worried.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Queen Veronica, queen of the vampire kingdom, needs us,” Sam tried to calm himself.
“Why does she need us!?” June’s jaw dropped, just like Sam’s previously.
“Humans invaded. Not good humans,” Sam had a glint of fear in his eyes.
“Let’s go. I don’t care about school. I’ll tell my parents the truth about how I met you and why we needed to leave,” I spoke hurriedly.
“I’ll create a portal,” June said.
“Wait! You could create a portal all this time. Why didn’t we use a portal to get here,” I cried.
“I can only use portals when they are one hundred percent necessary,” June answered.
“Oh. Okay!” I replied. “Let’s go!” We walked through the portal, which surprisingly led straight to Queen Veronica’s palace. I bowed down to the queen.
“Hello you three,” Queen Veronica’s voice was cold and chilling.
“Hello, Queen Veronica,” we said.
“Oh, no need to call me Queen,” Veronica said.
“How may we help you, Veronica?” June asked.
“Ah, yes. As you know humans,” Veronica looked at me, “have invaded. We need to get them to leave, I will need your help to do so. You two, June and Sam, are good at persuading people,” She finished.
“I’m honored that you’d choose us. Thank you,” Sam bowed.
“You may leave. Thank you for coming,” Veronica replied.
We walked to June and Sam’s house.
“So, I guess you guys have to stay here,” I stated.
“Yeah,” Sam frowned.
“Aw man! I don’t want Alex to leave,” June cried.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to visit. We can also call or text each other,” I smiled.
“Okay. Well then, goodbye,” June waved as a portal opened behind me.
“Bye,” Sam called.
“Bye, bye,” I hugged both of them right before I left.
I walked through the portal and ended up at my house. I began to prepare myself to explain everything to my parents.
The End… for now?
