STORY STARTER
Submitted by Eliana
Write a short story or poem about a platonic relationship.
Think about how platonic love differs from other kinds of love.
Coal
I hate you.
I think I hate you more than my body can handle.
I want to destroy you.
Then I want to forget you.
But I want to destroy you first.
I feel guilty for that,
Until I don’t.
I think I’m tired of feeling guilty.
You are the villain in this story after all.
Will I ever stop being angry?
It’s not like you can change.
Some people just are the way that they are.
You will never have my forgiveness.
I don’t care how long you might beg.
Forgiveness is a curse,
But to forget would be a gift.
The sweetest gift.
This is really good rose. I love the line, “I think I hate you more than my body can handle.” And I like how the title adds to the poem. Great job.
This is so relatable. The first two stanzas can literally be my thought process with about two different people. Then the third stanza is like all my doubts. So well written!
Thank you! I also wanted to add layers to the title, and while I personally do not celebrate Christmas, I thought that making coal the title would add to how punishment is somehow “deserved”, but it doesn’t always go to the deserving, and then the final wish in the last stanza, not being received. Sorry this is a lot and I don’t know if I explained it properly lol. I hope you’re doing well!
That makes so much sense! I love the title adding to the meaning! I’m ok 😅. Just not looking forward to school starting. I know some people have already started, but mine begins the 26th.
Mine already started lol, I’m so sleep deprived
Oh no 🙃, I truly feel for you. Soon that’ll be me too 🫠
