WRITING OBSTACLE
Think about a book or film which you do not like. Now imagine the opposite opinion, and write about it from the perspective of someone who loves it.
Trying to deliberately switch your perspective is great practice for writing characters and stories which aren't about people like you.
Prometheus Review
Prometheus is a stellar movie set in the Alien universe. Its take on the origin story of the Alien, Predator and human races is fantastically well thought out.
The idea that the life on Earth was seeded by some sort of civilization long before our time is a classic sci-fi trope that brings an interesting addition to the already rich Alien universe.
The sheer chaos of this movie's story points, characters and their impulsive reactions drive the plot in ways that are completely unpredictable and wild, which will be a great joy for fans of films that keep them on their toes.
Some people like myself love laughing at all the chaotic situations the characters find themselves in, while also trying to figure out and connect various pieces of lore, seemingly thrown in the movie raw and without much forethought.
But somewhere during that investigation process, a completely new way of entertainment takes place, where it clicks and you're not longer trying to make sense of the lunacy that unfolds before your eyes, in fact, you suddenly find yourself enjoying the ride on which, to be honest, not many films can take you in quite the same way Prometheus does.
A lady infected by a parasite 15 minutes ago, feels her stomach ache, and in a fascinating 5 minute process she gives birth to an octopus, and miraculously survives after her crewmates help her kill it? Not that it matters to the plot at all, but that kind of scene is just not something you will see often in movies.
There's just something about the many mysteries of this movie that will never get resolved that leaves you wanting for more. If the story was more coherent and posed clear answers to it's own questions, who would even bother watch it?
This way every soul can have it's own theory about what goes on in this film, although they will need to do some logical manouvering to weave it all together.
For all it's worth, one thing this movie does exceptionally well is practical effects, which might feel a bit outdated but nevertheless give an everlasting charm and kind of an old school aesthetic to this instant sci-fi classic.
