The Clouds

I used to jump up, arms outstretched, trying to grab at the candy floss clouds to see if they tasted as sweet as they looked.

I used to watch the birds in envy of their wings, these allowed them to live amongst the fluff I saw in my dreams.

When my papa told me that rain doesn’t just come from the clouds, it is the clouds, I used to wait for the skies to cloud over then run outside with pots and pans. My heart set on collecting the clouds, but what I collected was water, not the cotton wool from far above my head.

I gave up. I would never reach them. I still dreamed of the day however.

It was yesterday that my friend said to me that he had a hot air balloon. He offered me a lift straight to the clouds.
