STORY STARTER
Write a short horror story that DOESN'T involve murder, psychopaths, or paranormal activity.
Think about what other themes make captivating horror writing.
Not Today.
A shrill scream comes out of my mouth
“No! No, no, no. This can’t be happening, not today, fuck!”
I close my eyes as I shake my head. Hoping that maybe when I open my eyes it will be gone, I squeeze my eyes until they wrinkle, I squint open my left eye and look in the mirror. It’s still there, my shoulders slump.
Staring back at me is a giant pimple on my forehead - I push my hair in front of it to see if maybe it could be covered up with some cleaver curling wand skills, it can’t. There’s no hiding this thing, it’s a bright red beacon - like a lighthouse in the middle of my head guiding boats back to shore.
This would be fine on any other day, any other day I could crawl back into bed and hide under the covers until it slowly goes down. But not today, of course not - today’s the day I’m getting married, this giant boulder will live on forever through all the photos and videos and memories - like a time capsule of this very moment.
I hear footsteps coming up the stairs and my door swings open, it’s my mum. She must have heard me scream.
She’s puffed, “honey what’s wro…” she starts to say.
“Oh, oh dear”
She sees it. How could she not.
