Impostor Syndrome
Being alone in a room full of people feeling like an alien feeling as though everyone is secretly plotting without you is defined as having impostor syndrome. The feeling that everyone is in the know but you and everyone knows that you don’t know. A man could have a deep conversation with someone tell secrets and laugh and converse know things about someone that most others don’t but it will not matter if he has impostor syndrome. To him his friend does not care about him maybe his friend even resents him. Of course the fact is that this is not true but he does not know this. This will haunt him in everything he does. If he is part of the team the team hates him if he is part of a group of friends the friends are only there out of pity or circumstance they hate him. Being with his friends is the same as if he were stranded in a desert of ice on the edge of the world. Of course the man still longs for companionship that is what makes him human is companions and he loves being with people however he feels like the people do not like to be with him. He will never be good enough and he will always fall short he has unknowingly pitted himself against every living person with an opinion of him. He has made everyone around him an enemy and with a sense that he has no one to fall back on he hides. He hides so well he is unaware he is in hiding. He reduces himself to a list of what makes him himself and he has made others into a list of what makes them themselves with a small note at the bottom that reads “hates you silently” written into every list even his own. He knows he has created a fake world around himself and he knows he needs to leave but he doesn’t know how. He will one day find the door and exit or perhaps he has already found it and has blissfully ignored it.
