Sadie plopped down next to Shannon in the overgrown grass, leaning over her friend’s shoulder with a grin.

“Drawing again?” she asked.  

“Mhm,” Shannon replied, not even bothering to look up from her drawing.  Today, it was an octopus, its tentacles cleverly wrapped around each landmark of the old map she was using as a canvas.  It was nothing short of incredible, Sadie thought.  She could sit there and watch Shannon draw all day if she’d the time and permission.  With each subtle stroke of her pencil, she seemed to breathe more and more life into this creature’s story, and yet she did so with such remarkable mindlessness.  It was beautiful.  

And, God, Sadie realized, glancing at her once more, so was she.
