Write a story titled "When I Look in the Mirror".

The Lie On The Other Side

This is what she saw when she looked in the mirror

She couldn’t get past the ugly

She couldn’t get past the bad

Because she didn’t look like those Vogue models

So she must be weird

She must not be normal

Because she wasn’t as thin as a stick

Everyone told her she was gorgeous

But she saw past that

Into the monster she though she was

Too busy hating herself to see the world around her

She couldn’t get past the judgeful stares when she changed her hair

Or the weird looks when she put on less makeup

But worst of all,

She couldn’t get past the male gaze

How was she supposed to stop caring about what other people thought

When that consumed her

It riddled her with guilt

For wanting to attract boys

It riddled her with self hatred

For never getting any

She picked away every part of herself

Every imperfect spot of herself

Untill she was nothing but an devil

Glowing red with impurity

Everyone knew of her innocence

But they didn’t know truly the thoughts she thunk

They never could understand the ugly monster she was

The monster that they created

She was only trying to improve herself

She was only trying to make things better

She only wanted more people to like her

More people to think of her as pretty

She couldn’t stand feeling anything less

She couldn’t feel ugly or gross untill she got home

She couldn’t feel impure in a pretty white dress

But if she only knew what really mattered

If she could look up from the mirror

She would see

No one cared about her teeth

No one cared about the way she laughed

No one cared about how her hair was pulled back

They only cared what she was on the inside

But she felt on the inside like a devil

The worst kind of creature

A person who did wrongdoing

A person who lied to everyone

Because she didn’t want to ruin the image of her in their heads

Because them her purity would be dead

She didn’t want them to see what she thought she truly was

They only got to see the pretty girl

And never the mirror
